Don't want to pay 99 cents for a song that you've heard on Last.fm?

There are lots of ways to download the music from Last.fm for free. I will show you how in this article. Basically, you just need to load a simple addon to your browser, and there are a few programs that do this. They download music in .mp3 format, or video files in .flv format.

Neither of the two programs listed below have any spyware or other crap so you don't have to worry. Just make sure you get the downloads from the original websites.

First, in Firefox, there is an addon called DownloadHelper. Not only does it download music from Last.fm, but it will let you capture streaming video and audio from all kinds of sites. It is a free extension to the Firefox browser. You can download it from here.

Once installed, you will see a small icon appear in the Firefox Toolbar. Any time you are at a site that has any kind of multimedia running, including music from Last.fm, it will activate. you will then be able to download the file being played. It will be named accordingto how Last.fm named it, which will be a numbered file, so all you have to do is rename the file to the title of the song.

I find Download Helper the best program because it works generically for all websites to download video and audio.

Another option is to use a program like FreeMusicZilla. It is a free program that is specifically made to download music from streaming music sites such as Last.fm, Pandora, IMEEM, etc. It even works with Myspace music too.  It works with all browsers.

FreeMusicZilla willlist the file being played, and you just have to tell the program to download that song. As with Downloadhelper, it will default the name to a numbered file and you just have to rename the file to the title of the ong.

There you have it, two very simple ways and free ways to download music from Last.fm and other music websites.
